Support

Parents have told us that having the opportunity to speak with other parents when learning to take on the role of parenting a child who is deaf/hearing impaired can be a great help. We also know that often the best source of support and information comes from other parents with a child with a hearing loss.
You can find parent to parent support via a number of ways, POD Groups (parent support groups), the Parent to Parent Mentoring Program (P2P) or via Aussie Deaf Kids online parent group. All are available free to families.

POD Support Groups

What is POD?

"POD" is a network of local parent support groups open to parents and caregivers of children with any degree or type of deafness.

Raising a child with hearing loss provides unique challenges and rewards. Often it can be helpful to connect with other parents who can relate to your experiences. Even though stories are unique and the journey is individual, parents share the experience of wanting the best for their child. Whether you are just at the beginning of your journey or have many years experience, POD is a great place to meet. POD provides opportunities to meet other parents, offers information sessions and allows parents to share experiences at a regular venue every month.

Parent to Parent Mentoring Program

Are you the parent of a child with hearing loss? Are you feeling confused, isolated and worried? Would you like to talk to another parent who has been in similar circumstances about your concerns/challenges? Trained parent mentors offer the benefit of their experience, offering guidance, advice, support, and feedback to the parent.
